Kandinsky advised, “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”

Influenced by this directive is Swiss-based painter Iva Bogdanova’s whose chromatic compositions envelope viewers with voluminous gem-colored forms that delicately ascend her abstract compositions.

Through layered brushwork and textured application, Ms. Bogdanova intermingles gestural color-fields with nascent abstract organic configurations. A myriad compendium of color components dances across her canvas, amidst atmospheric pools of brilliant spectral hues, textures and shapes. Within her richly layered abstract compositions, the non-verbal universe looks beyond the recognizable, entering a world where feeling takes precedence over literal representation.

Unfolding dynamic relationships between color and movement, transparency and density, structure and spontaneity, shapes emerge, dissolve, and reappear, creating an atmosphere in which the eye is encouraged to wander. Rather than prescribing a single interpretation, Iva Bogdanova leaves space for the viewer to experience the painting intuitively, allowing personal memory, emotion, and imagination to become part of the work.

Passages of intense color converse with quieter expanses, while energetic brushstrokes introduce a dynamic sense of movement. Saturated multi-valent color planes interweave, juxtapose and collide into analogous forms, all the while ascending two-dimensional space through topographical layers of richly saturated brushwork. Kaleidoscopic colors are the central narrative, reflecting a natural labyrinthine concept of the world.  Essential to the impact of these images is the exhilarating expressiveness of color as chromatic drama permeates her compositions.  Her central narrative is to make color come into its own through response to other colors.
